stronghold
Stronghold: Crusader, better known as Saladin, is a strategy video game developed by English studio Firefly Studios in 2002[1]. The game was released after the first part, Strong Hold, and differs from the first part in that the game no longer takes place in England, but rather in the Middle East during the period of the Crusades.[2] It differs from its predecessor in the single-player skirmish mode, which allows customizing battles against the AI instead of linear stages. A version of the game was later released as Stronghold Warchest, containing the synopsis of Part One Stronghold, and an improved version of Stronghold: Crusader, containing additional characters and additional linear stages.
The Stronghold Archist version was released in a limited number of countries such as the United States and Poland. Which led to the absence of additional characters, and additional linear stages for the rest of the world. But this changed when another updated version called the Strong Hold Crusade Extreme was released in early 2008.
playing style
The gameplay is similar to the first part, Stronghold, and the main difference between them is that Stronghold: Crusader takes place in the Middle East. As a result, farms can only be built on green oases, due to the desert nature of the Arab region, which leads to competition between players over farmland and limited resources. The game adds new Arab AI opponents, and new Arab soldiers that can be purchased from the soldiers' tent. The color of the player's soldiers has also been changed from blue to red in order to match the colors of the Knights Templar. Other than oases, there are other resources such as: iron ore, quarries (for stone), and swamps (for oil). These resources are deposited in the inventory and the player can choose to sell them,or used for defensive or economic purposes. There are two ways to build an army. Either forge weapons and then spend a little gold to turn peasants into soldiers, or directly turn them into soldiers using more gold through the soldiers' tent.
There are historical (mostly fictional) stages that must be completed using the resources given to the player at the beginning of the stage. Besides, there are 50 stages designed with increasing difficulty. In each level, the player must defend the kingdom and defeat one or more kings. There is an option with three chickens at the beginning of the game that the player can use to pass a certain stage.
Personalities
The game contains many different AI-controlled characters in skirmish mode, and they can be chosen as allies or enemies. One of the unique aspects of the game is that the characters have video pinks (small short videos) through which they communicate with the player, asking him for goods or help if they are allied with him, or if they are enemies of the player, they will make fun of him when they attack him or fear him when attacking them. These videos were absent in Stronghold 2, but are back in a new form in Stronghold Crusader 2.
